Location
The photo was taken from Bayonne, NJ from a pier that is about 5.85Km away from the New York City skyline.Time
I was shooting from different locations that night. By the time I got to get to this particular location it was midnight.Lighting
There is nothing special about lighting in this night shot except the 'Tribute in Light' that symbolize the twin towers that were taken down in the terrorist attack on September 11th, 2001. The 'Tribute in Light' have two LED powerful stations that lit up the sky every 9/11 in two white light tracks to commemorate of the twin towers.Equipment
To shoot this frame I used a Canon 7D, EF70-200mm lens, Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT tripod with BBH-200 ballhead and shutter release cable.Inspiration
I wanted to document how we commemorate 9/11 event and what means for all of us the innocent lives we lost that day. I knew that I want to capture the whole story in one frame, from the Freedom Lady Liberty to the twin towers, to the new One World Center that was just completed that year. I just had to find the vantage point that will give me my vision. And I think this worked perfectly.Editing
I usually shoot bracketing frames for night photography. I later manually balance the light/tones in Photoshop to come to a final frame. In this particular case I went for B&W as I thought it will be finishing the story in the vision I had that night. In my camera bag
I have two camera bodies, a Canon 5D Markiii and a Canon 7D, EF16-35mm, EF24-70mm and EF70-200mm lenses, ND filters, ND-gradual filters, Lee holder system, Polarizer filter, small flash, extra batteries, shutter release cable, 7 inch tablet, lens cleaning kit.Feedback
Have a vision, document yourself before you plan the shoot, check weather, scout the place and be open to change your vision as you see fit. In my case I have shot this frame from 2-3 different places and every single one gave me different perspective of the skyline, Liberty Statue and even Empire State Building. Find that works for you, for your vision, execute and have fun with it!
