Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the Salt River near Mesa, Arizona

Time

morning a little prior to 10 AM

Lighting

it was a typical Arizona day with a lot of sun shine.

Equipment

was using a Canon 70D with a Tamron 150-600 lens. focal distance was 273mm. used a mono-pod. No flash.

Inspiration

Spent a few hours watching a number of wild horse herds congregate at a popular (for horses) spot on the river. A small herd of bachelor stallions appeared and after a short time they began "sparing". These two actually were fairly earnest in their battle so I took several shots. This shot shows more of the intensity and action.

Editing

no post processing

In my camera bag

Canon 70D, Sigma 28-70 f2.8, Tamron 150-600, Canon 70-200 f2.8 lenses. have 1.4 extender.

Feedback

As with any wildlife the greatest asset is patience. I spent at least 3 hours just watching several interactions of minimal interest prior to these two stallions participating in this battle.
