This photo was taken in my basement. All of the reflective material is actually heating ducts. I was currently redoing my basement, saw the heating ducts and inspiration struck. For a long time I rode freestyle BMX. I decided to capture the look and feel of what a BMX portrait Would look like.Time
This was actually taken on a rainy afternoon in my basement when no riding could be done!Lighting
For the shot I used four canon 600 EX – RT flashes. Thereis one hidden behind my subject and two off to the right and left as well as the one on the Camera. I wanted to make sure to light the subject and catch the reflections.Equipment
I captured this image with my Canon 5D Mark III. Shot at 5.6 and lit with 4 canon 600 EX-RT Flashes.Inspiration
The inspiration came from all the heating ducts I had laying around in the basement!Editing
Post processing I only used light room for this one all I did is brought out some of the lighter whites and I darkened the shadows. To me this really makes the brights pop against the reflective surfaces. I also use a little extra sharpening when editing black and white. I just like the bolder style it creates. In my camera bag
I always carry a camera with me. I usually carry my Canon EOS M. It allows me to carry a small compact Carmera which has an adapter ring that I can attach all of my Canon glass to. For lighting, I carry to Lume Cubes. They are battery-operated rechargeable and can also work off of my phone app for specific lighting needs!Feedback
Keep shooting and making mistakes. Sometimes my mistakes are some of my best shots!
