This light is in Crescent City, California. Very interesting to photograph because you could see it from a variety of locations as well as get up close and personal during low tide.

Great shot! We live an hour from here in Oregon and come over here a lot to go crabbing. I like this POV

The freshness of the location is mirrored in this fabulous shot, one can almost taste the sea- spray. Wonderful shot. Regards.

Location
This is the Battery Point Light House in Crescent City, California. My son and I were on a trip taking in the sights of Northern California and drove home along the beautiful Coast Highway to enjoy the spectacular views as well as to visit as many light houses as we could.Time
I took the photo a little after 11 a.m. the end of November last year.Lighting
Fortunately, there was a good cloud cover that day, which helped cut down on glare and soften the light. I also had the freedom to drive up the coast road a little ways to get the sunlight hitting the light house right where I wanted it to. I was delighted with how well it worked out because, when traveling, it is not always possible to get the beautiful early morning or golden hour lighting.Equipment
My go-to camera is a Sony SLT-A77V, the lens I used was a DT 18-270mm, f 3.5-6.3 and I use a tripod whenever and wherever possible.Inspiration
You can only walk out to Battery Point during low tide, which I had done the previous day in order to photograph it up close and personal. Then, the next morning, when I saw the wonderful mist and beautiful soft lighting I knew I had to capture it from a distance to include more of the gorgeous setting.Editing
I always edit my images in Photoshop, which is also the program I used to create the frame effect. Additionally, for this image, I adjusted the tonal contrast using Color Efex Pro 4.In my camera bag
My bag comes complete with a remote control, a small Joby GorillaPod, small LED light, Sony 50mm macro lens, Tamron 90mm macro AF 1:2.8, a Sony wide angle and a variety of filters. I also carry extra charged batteries, a charger, lens cleaner, small foldable reflector, extra memory cards and a rain protector for my camera. I believe it is always better to be safe than sorry!Feedback
I believe lighting is very important to creating the mood and focal point of most any photo and something I am always watching for. Since lighting can make or break an otherwise great image, be patient and experiment. Take a lot of photos from as many angles and distances as possible, because you never know which one just might be the winner. Keep in mind that getting back to a location for a re-shoot may not always be possible, let alone practical, especially when there are so many wonderful places to visit and photograph!
