Location
The photoshoot took place on a rooftop in Budapest city center. We partly sneaked in so the whole shooting had an adventure feeling. In the background you can see a neo-gotchic church.Time
We were very lucky with the weather. The pic was taken 18th of May 2014 on a warm afternoon. As far as i remember it was partly cloudy. It’s always windy on a high rooftop, thats why the black satin clothing worked out perfectly.Lighting
It’s all natural lights. You don’t see sharp shadows on the model, nor on the ground, which is due to the cloudy weather. It all worked out well, I just wanted to create enough contrast for a black and white image.Equipment
The picture was taken with a Canon 6d, with my favourite 50mm f/1.4 lens. I find the low aperture on the fix lens amazing. This one has been my favourite for more than 7 years now. settings: f3.5 -to get the model sharp and the background blurred 1/1250 -fast exposure, cause the model is making fast movements Iso 100 -cause its mostly sunnyInspiration
First of all i live in Budapest (Hungary) and i love this city :) And i admire dancers so i decided to make some photoshoots in the various parts of the city with talented dancers. The project is called "Dance For Me Budapest" These are one of my favourite shots and shootings ever. The beautiful city and the dancers mesmerize me. This picture's title is 'Step into this room and dance for me' which is a song by Madrugada from 'The Nightly Disease' album. The whole ablum had a great effect on me.Editing
I didnt do anything complicated, just put the image in Black and White and added some blur, contrast and grain. I always shoot in colour so i can choose whatever i want to do while post processing the images. In my camera bag
Just my 6D with the 50mm. This is the setup i use most of the time. I have 28-105mm as well, but i rarely end up using that one. I also have a Tokina 11-16mm with f/2.8 which is awsome and fun to experiment with!Feedback
Personally, I rarely make solid plans of the shooting as I love the freedom to go with the flow. I get inspired by the ‘then and there’, the moment, place and faces in the surroundings. For capturing somewhat similar moments, I’d recommend scouting the city for places. Rooftops are nice, because they give a unique ‘above the city’ perspective. You’re going to need daylight for fast shutter speeds in order to capture swift movements. Try to figure out what movements and positions are best for the shot and make sure you communicate it well to the model. For example, in this specific picture, I told her to stand sideways and ‘burst out’ pulling back the black satin to draw a circle around her. Have fun! :)
