The cherry blossoms are so welcome in the Spring and are a riot of color, covering the entire tree.
A cherry blossom is the flower the tree genus Prunus. The Japanese cherry is in the Prunus serrulata genus, and they're the primary tree one sees that all bloom at once, as in Washington DC. They are like many of the varieties that have been cultivated for ornamental use and do not produce fruit. (Info from Wikipedia)
