Early morning.Lighting
I was very lucky with the lighting for this shot. The early morning mist combined with the soft light really attracted me to the scene.Equipment
Canon 6D with a 24-105mm lens. Handheld.Inspiration
We had been driving around for a while and when we reached the crest of one hill the view before us showed the most beautiful light coming through the mists. Within a few minutes the view had completely changed and we couldn't see beyond about 5 inches in front of our face, so it was definitely a fleeting moment I had to capture! I loved the silhouetted trees and the contrast of the light and mist that surrounded it and the ethereal atmosphere it created.Editing
The post processing was minimal - the usual tweaks for contrast, exposure etc. but nothing else. I didn't want to change it too much so that it no longer resembled what I had seen that morning. In my camera bag
Canon 6D, my go to lens 24-105mm, sometimes my telephoto 100-400mm (mainly for safaris/wildlife), tripod, polarising filter, UV filter, ND filter and copious amounts of batteries and SD cards (can never have enough!).Feedback
Waiting for this shot was a combination of patience and luck! We had been driving up and down the hills for a while that morning waiting for the local tea pickers to head to work. However, the mist and lighting hadn't been on our side and more often than not it was creating an impenetrable fog. In a last ditch attempt to get some usable shots we decided to head for the highest peak we knew and this was where we had about 4 minutes of perfect lighting. My advice would be in a similar situation persevere, be patient and take any opportunity you can - those few minutes flew past and after that there were no shots to be had for the rest of the morning, so you've got to grab the moment!
