that's just too cute - I love elephants, and esp baby elephants - she'd stomp the dickens out of that lion if he messes with her baby, but he sure looks intent on doing just that

This is an amazing capture. Might I ask if you reside in South Africa or was this a vacation? My husbands dream is to go and I want to photograph everything. I want to rent a really big big lens. One I could never afford.

Location
This photo was taken in Addo Elephant National Park located in the Easter Cape province of South Afrika. I'm so lucky to live about 70 km from the park.Time
It was early morning round about 09:45 we visited the park with a friend and this was our first sighting.Lighting
My camera was broken so I used my wife's camera a Canon Powershot SX150 and if I remember correctly it was set on Auto function because I was not all that fimiliar with it. On the otherhand there wasn't much time to worry about settings as I was afraid I would lose this beautiful frame to capture the lion in.Equipment
As mentioned above the Canon Powershot SX150 and a lot of luck.Inspiration
As you will see from my gallery I love nature and nature photography so we do visit the park from time to time. Animals are animals and as a visitor one is restricted to stay in you vehicle thus one never know what you're going to see and whether one will be in a good position for a beautiful capture. Driving into the park is like opening a lucky packet when we where kids.Editing
I don't use programs like Photoshop etc. I like my photos to be as natural as possable so I only use what is available on Windows Photo Gallery. In this case I a bit of cropping, adjusted a bit on the exposure and a touch of saturation and that goes for most of my photos. In my camera bag
My camera and some spare batteries, that is it. My current camera is a Fujifilm Finepix S8400W bridge camera with 44x zoom as I don't have the finances for all the big stuff.Feedback
All I can say is photography doesn't need to be a expensive hobby. All you need is a reasonable good camera and passion. Most of my photography I do in a 100 km radius from where I stay and even a fair amount in my garden. I think I have a built-in camera viewer in my eye, if I look at something I see it as a photo :) Good luck and keep on shooting everybody.
