Location
This bridge was shot on the rail line in downtown Peterborough ON Canada which crosses the Otonabee River.Time
The time was late morningLighting
This was a spur of the moment shot on my way to a meeting, dressed appropriately, for the meeting but not for lying belly-down on the railway ties. I bracketed three shots -2 EV, 0 EV, +2 EV, then took off for the meeting trying to clean up along the way.Equipment
This was shot with Canon 50D and the Tameron 18-270 at 18 mm F/8Inspiration
I was parked beside the tracks in a Holliday inn parking lot waiting for my wife to deliver some product and I had time to burn and time to shoot. Getting down low gave a full and different point of view.Editing
This HDR was processed using photomatics and refined in photoshop CS5, using curves to improve contrast and some clarity. Also did some dodge and burn on the rail surface and the shadows on the railsIn my camera bag
Filters: 2-4-and 8-ND and circularpolarizer, 580 canon flash. 60mm macro canon, canon 10-24mm, 18-270 tameron, cable release, trigger trap. Gary Fung diffuser. Large slik tripod with manfroto ballhead.Feedback
Experiment with high contrast situations for HDR, research various software options and use the 30 day trials. If your shooting successfully you are likely shooting from various vantage points alternately to standing straight up all the time. Not all situations lend them selves to an interesting HDR composition, I have programmed my custom function to automatically shoot -2 ,0, +2 EV when set on a two or ten second timer and if the bracketed results are unfavourable or undesirable I can still use one of the shots if needed because the are RAW. When shooting this way all day or during a vacation, bring lots of memory.
