Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Yosemite National Park in California. It is a snapshot of El Capitan one of the most famous vertical rock formations located on the north side of Yosemite Valley, near it's western end. It's elevation is 7,573 feet and is a challenging and arduous climb for rock climbers and for those who want to skydive from the sheer granite face before opening their parachutes.

Time

I took this photo in the afternoon.

Lighting

It was very sunny that particular day. The sky was so blue and there wasn't a cloud to be had.

Equipment

I didn't have my DSLR cameras at this time, so I grabbed my sister's Canon camera and took this shot. I did not use a flash or tripod and used a zoom lens.

Inspiration

What inspired me to take this photo was the sheer beauty of El Capitan and it's surroundings. There is so much to see in the park and you could spend months just exploring all that the park has to offer but El Capitan, above all else, just took my breath away.

Editing

This photo didn't really require a lot of post-processing. What you see is exactly the way that it appeared in person. I may have adjusted the highlights and shadows a little to ensure that you see what the camera may not have captured.

In my camera bag

I normally carry either my Canon or Nikon cameras in my bag with various lenses, filters, additional batteries and instruction manuals. My Canon camera is an EOS Rebel SL1 and I have two lenses: one with 55-250 range and a macro lens EF 100mm, 1-2.8. I have become passionate about taking macro photos so I always carry this in my bag now. My Nikon camera is a D610 with a lens that has a 28-300 range.

Feedback

My advice would be to take as many photos as you can of El Capitan from different angles. It's amazing how different this rock formation changes in appearance just by moving around a little. If you can spend more than one day in the park, I would totally recommend it. I would also try to take photos either very early in the morning or late in the afternoon towards sunset. The scenery at those hours is spectacular.
