The POV in this shot is magnificent ! I love the way the creek directs the eye to the depth of the shot ! Wonderful !!!

Behind The Lens

Location

Sunset Bay State Park just south of Coos Bay, Oregon on the Cape Arago Highway

Time

It was between 10 and 11 am.

Lighting

I'm a novice, or better yet hobbyist, photographer using a Canon Powershot point & shoot so most of my photographs are taken in natural light as this one was. I will adjust and use the built-in pop-up flash, on occasion, to light up the foreground.

Equipment

I use Canon cameras almost exclusively. This photograph was taken with a Canon PowerShot SX230 HS and it was hand-held as I walked the entire park

Inspiration

I took this photo while being interviewed by a local news station, KCBY. This is one of my favorite places to take sunset photos so it was new to me to be there in the morning.

Editing

I did minor adjusting of Brightness/Contrast and Highlights/Shadows in Photoshop, just to bring out some definition in the clouds and background cliffs and trees.

In my camera bag

Camera, extra batteries, an extra memory card, microfiber cloth, and a flash diffuser for a DSLR that I found at a thrift store and hand-hold in front of the flash sometimes.

Feedback

Don't put a point & shoot in "easy" mode and expect to capture a scene that doesn't look like a "tourist photo." I use Program mode for 99% of my photos and adjust for exposure, light source, flash strength, etc... I will use Manual once in awhile if I have time to make more adjustments but for fleeting moments, Program mode will give better results than "easy" every time.
