This is neat... it's like a free floating image .... a little disconcerting but very effective :)

Location
This was taken at St Mary's Lighthouse, which is at Whitley Bay in the North East of England. The lighthouse sits on a small island that is attached to the mainland twice a day when the tides go out.Time
It was taken on a bright afternoon in late August, so a sunny day with a bright blue sky, some clouds skimming across the sky. The time of day is important to outdoor images for where you want light and shadow to fall in your image.Lighting
No additional lighting was used with this image.Equipment
I used a Nikon D5200 with the kit lens for this photo. I don't take expensive equipment when I go to the beach, there is always that chance that something will get sand in it, or I will drop it in the sea.Inspiration
The image to me was a straightforward image of the lighthouse and its island. I had hoped to capture the reflection of the lighthouse in the sea, but it wasn't there that day. In post processing I decided to make a reflection for the image.Editing
I used Photoshop CS6 but I'm sure this can be done with most editing software. To recreate the style of image above, resize the image to double the size. Copy the original image, rotate it 180 degrees and flip it, so that it is an exact mirror copy, once its placed underneath the original. To create the wave effect, make a mask with a number of lines at the thickness and quantity to want, these lines will be the part of the image that say intact, the space between the lines will be effected by the Gassian Blur filter which is applied. In my camera bag
In my rucksack, I carry both a Nikon D5200 and a D7100, a Nikon 50mm, Nikon 85mm, Nikon 18-105mm, a Tokina 11-16mm ultrawide, and a Tamron 18-200mm. I have a Neewer speedlite and Yongnuo triggers, a variety of diffusers for the lights. I have a couple of ND filters, which I have yet to use. A shower cap for sudden drizzles, a spudz lens cloth, a small roll of paper towels (you never know what you may need to clean) and of course my camera is attached to a padded shoulder strap with a small lens carry bag attached to it. The lens bag is invaluable for carrying bits and pieces like tissues, change, keys and lens caps - as a woman who takes her camera bag everywhere, I can often want to use it when I am not dressed with pockets, purse or coat.Feedback
Sometimes you take an image and like it, you take it again another time, and because its local you take it regularly. When the weather is poor and you don't want to go outside, take an image you know well and using your manipulation software edit it, be as outlandish as you want. If you like the finished image share it, if you don't, still keep it, you can look back at it months later and see how far you have developed your skills.
