Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken on the island counter in the kitchen. He has a gravitation towards the camera.Time
It was just before sundown and Levon jumped up on the counter and waited to be talked to.Lighting
Levon always looks regal and stoic while posing for the camera. If he does not feel it, the picture simply looks bad. Most days he is truly intrigued at being photographedEquipment
I always use my Canon 7d when photographing things. My 50mm lens is usually my "go to" for portrait shots, the lens is fast and has a huge depth of field in case something moves out of field or vision.Inspiration
Levon has an inquisitive and eager look about himself sometimes. Most of the time he can be pompous and dismissive, like most cats. This particular day he was feeling it and I was too. Therefore I wanted to capture this moment. I never expected it to be featured in magazines and win several online awards. This is definitely the motivation behind the photo.Editing
Usually I touch up the lighting and contrast in pictures. This one of Levon I did a more sharpening around his eyes and nose to bring out a little depth. In my camera bag
Many lens and filters are always in my bag. If I am doing slower shutter speeds or using ND filters, I bring my remote switch and tripod.Feedback
People heard and said this before, take lots and lots of pictures. Do not be afraid to scrap a picture if it looks bad. Low lighting and white balance can be salvaged but out of focus shots cannot be fixed. Make sure everything is in focus. Pay close attention to your aperture and shutter. Try a picture on auto and then switch to manual to fine tune the functions to what looks best.
