Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania. We visit the area frequently in the winter months because of the large number of eagle sightings. The Lackawaxen river empties into The Delaware River and it provides a good environment for feeding on fish. The Delaware freezes over in the Northern parts, but because the Lackawaxen river moves swiftly it keeps a small area of the water unfrozen for the eagles to feed.

Time

Mid morning

Lighting

I am not sure I paid much attention to lighting for this shot, I was just thrilled to capture my first Eagle in the wild!

Equipment

A Canon Rebel T3 zoom lens EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 III

Inspiration

I had never had the pleasure of seeing an eagle in the wild, so I started doing some research to find out if there were any good places for sightings, so we drove 2 hours north to find them. It was one of the biggest thrills of my life to get up there and sure enough they were all around in the trees.

Editing

I did some cropping around the eagle and then did some contrast and saturation adjustments.

In my camera bag

I normally have a 75-300mm zoom lens, a 18-55mm lens, a pro-master 58 mm filter, and a +1,+2, and+4 pro-master close-ups

Feedback

Timing is everything when searching for natural habitat of wildlife. You have to pay attention to the time you are most likely to see them. Become familiar with their feeding habits and wait for them. We waited for about an hour + for them to arrive from the mountains to feed.
