This photo was taken in my parents kitchen back in Alabama, right next to a bunch of tupperware and a bunch of homemade light modifiers.Time
This was taken around noon, the great thing about shooting with flashes is that I can control the light and pull off any lighting situation I find myself facing.Lighting
This was before I actually had the money to really buy any sort of light modifiers, so I just had to make my own. I want to say that I used my shoebox softbox for this one. Basically I cut open the back of a shoebox and taped a few layers of wax paper over it to diffuse the light.Equipment
D7000, Tamron 100mm 2.8 Macro, and a SB700 flash. Also a syringe filled with saline to place the droplet.Inspiration
This was taken so long ago I can barely remember. I believe I read an article about how saline has better surface retention than just water, and thats how some photographers got those perfect round water drops. So I bummed a syringe, made some saline, and stole my mothers favorite orchid.Editing
I try not to do much post processing, getting it right in camera is a big part of my creative process. A lot of planning goes into my photos before I ever even pick up the camera, so I don't have spend as much time behind a computer. Basically I just cropped and bumped the contrast a little bit.In my camera bag
I try and travel light. Currently I shoot with a D750, I have 2 lenses on my at all times. The Nikon 24-120 F4 and the Nikon 70-200 2.8. I have two Yonguo flashes and triggers. Then light stands, and one soft box.Feedback
Preparation. Draw up some thumbnails, read some articles, and figure out your lighting setup. Also, throw in like 3 tablespoons of salt in like 10oz of warm water and stir it up. Thats my formula for a decent saline mix. Scrounge up a syringe with a needle, and make sure you have a steady hand when placing your droplets!
