Nice capture! Barn owls can be really hard to shoot on a nice day as they usually white out with over exposure. I have failed to get them many times. Well done!

I know this must have taken time to capture as birds move around a lot. I admire your commit to detail and how beautiful this photograph is. Such clarity and just an amazing capture. My favorite shoot of an owl

The challenge here was open, midday sky with a few light clouds.Equipment
Nikon D5100 with a Tamron 24-75 lens, handheld, with only natural light.Inspiration
I love animals, and there's a falconry show the ren faire where it's possible to get very close to the birds. They feature falcons, owls and vultures, and during the show they fly over the audience and land on perches around the area; I try to stake out a perch and wait for the birds to come to me. Making friends with the head falconer and apprentices helps, too!Editing
This image was managed in Lightroom and Photoshop CS5. The challenge was managing the shadows produced by the overhead sun; the end results was created with some masking, levels and curves, and a bit of high-pass sharpening to bring out the features. In my camera bag
I am 3 years into my D5100 and it has been a reliable companion. I keep a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 lens, along with (usually) my 150mm macro lens. I have recently acquired an 85 f/1.8, which I also love. All that, plus a speedlite and stand, remote, wireless trigger, and batteries. Never, never go without extra batteries.Feedback
Know your lens and your camera. In event photography you must move around, be alert and constantly on the watch for the right moment. Keep your eye trained on your subject. And don't just shoot for moments, look for reactions, too!
