Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the north end of the Dornoch firth , Scottish highlands. It faces east towards the Dornoch bridge from Spinningdale.

Time

It was a very cold February morning between 8am and 9am.

Lighting

The sun had just cleared the horizon , that's the beauty of a winter shot the sun much lower in the sky and sunrise is later.

Equipment

I used a Canon 5D MKIII for this shot with the 24-70mm lens at f/9 and at 1/20th of a second. I had no tripod with me so held down very firmly on the camera that was rested on top of a fence post.

Inspiration

Inspiration to take this photo was indeed the fantastic sunrise that unfolded before me.

Editing

I processed this image Light room and photoshop. I lifted the shadows quite a bit and also reduced the noise. I leo added a bit of clarity and vibrance.

In my camera bag

I have the Canon 5D MKIII and the Canon 500D with three lenses the 50mm f/1.8 , 24-70mm f/2.8 (my most versatile lens) and the 70-200mm /2.8 IS. I have flash speed-lite 600 ex-rt and the yougnou 460. I have the ST-E3-RT transmitter for the off camera flash. Filters I only carry a couple one a circular polariser and a 10 stop ND filter. Apart from that I have some spare batteries , remotes for the camera's and just some general junk that I seem to collect.

Feedback

The most important is take a tripod but it's if you forgotten or don't have one find a place to rest your camera and you will always get your shot.
