It was in excess of 40° C or 104° F and this lioness, along with others, decided that it was opportune to rest in the shade and see the day out until it became way cooler. Another 4 x 4 was stuck in the river sand and we went to their assistance. These lions were 20 to 25 metres away. They couldn't have cared less, it was too hot and they were simply passing the time until they could go and hunt in the cool of the evening. Photo was taken in the Tuli Safari Area, N.E. Botswana.

Fabuous and thank God for their exhaustion. Please forgive me Brian yet I do not think it was the heat that tired them out. I believe it comes from the fact that the male lions make the lionesses do all the work! The males are known to lay around in a lazy form unless a "camp" threat for lack of better words. Poor females need reviving! I guess it takes a female to see it. lol great shot Brian.. blessings, Cheryl
