This American Bald Eagle was flying swiftly, with a large clump of Spanish Moss trailing behind, to be used in the construction of a nest.
Bald Eagles build the largest nest of any bird in North America. These nests are reused annually by the same pair of birds and increase in size accordingly to the length of time they have been occupied.
Eagle nests are constructed with large sticks and may be lined with moss, grass, plant stalks, lichens, seaweed, or sod. The nest can be up to 13 feet deep, 8.2 feet wide, and 1.1 tons in weight, although larger nests exist.
