This photo was taken in my back yard. This year we raised over 30 monarch butterflies for release to help the population grow. The milkweed is in the back yard and the caterpillars hatch there. When they are big enough to see we bring them inside to save them from birds, spiders, and lizards. I'm a self taught photographer and artist. I love looking for color where ever I go.Time
This photo was taken in the morning. I wait until the sun warms up the yard then carry the butterfly out to a flower. Then it takes it's first flight.Lighting
In the beach area we often get overcast mornings in the summer. This makes for the beautiful defused light I was able to use for this photo.Equipment
I just used my Sony phone camera. These moments happen so quickly, I don't have time for my larger camera.Inspiration
I get so much joy from releasing the butterflies and seeing them in their first moments outside. I wanted to capture the moment so I can continue to feel that special time.Editing
I generally don't process my photos, other than cropping. I don't use computer programs to change nature. In my camera bag
In my camera bag I have a small portable tripod, extra batteries, and a lens shield for bright light.Feedback
My best advise is always carry your camera and be on the lookout for shape and color. Photo opportunities are everywhere!
