A pair of beautiful African Lions - (Panthera leo), resting after mating. The lion received claws in his nose from the lioness, as he dismounted. You can see the blood there. Mating is painful for female cats of all sizes, because of the barb-like structures on the male's reproductive organ. A theory is that the, "raking" during mating will stimulate ovulation in the female, to increase the chances of conception. Lions mate frequently; about every 30 minutes, for two to three days.
