Location
I had an idea about shooting my wife's niece at a water fountain in downtown Beaumont Texas. As soon as we arrived, there was this large Christmas tree set up in the park. We rushed home so she could get ready for the shoot.Time
This image was taken at a twightlite hour.Lighting
I knew that lighting was going to be difficult with the tree lights in the background. In order to light up a person's face, I brought two LED magiclight sticks and put them on light stands. These are my favorite lights for shooting portraits.Equipment
I shoot with a Nikon D3S. It's a workhorse of a camera and has never let me down. My go to lens for this shoot is a 70-200mm 2.8 lens.Inspiration
On this shoot, my model had brought several changes of clothes. My wife has this coat on and I asked if we could use it. With the hair style she chose for the shoot as well as the coat, the two went hand in hand.Editing
All images needs a little touching up to make them stand out. That is ie, cropping and maybe a little contrast. In my camera bag
My camera bag always has a Nikon D3S camera, 70-200mm 2.8, a 24-70mm, 2.8, an 85mm 1.4, and 105mm 2.8 lens. This usually covers most of portrait work.Feedback
If you can visualize what you want you your image to look like, lighting is key. Either using a flash or a reflector, always make sure the catch light is in the subject eyes.
