For his imposing sculpture Echo of the Veluwe, the New Zealand sculptor Chris Booth has chosen a quiet spot in the sculpture garden of the Kroller Muller museum: a small sand hill, somewhat hidden between the trees. The work is placed there 'like a wave of the wind', as he describes it himself.
As usual with an image that Booth creates for a specific site, the material comes from the immediate vicinity. 310 erratic boulders that were brought in from the north by glaciers some 150,000 years ago. The boulders form a spiral or helix, a shape that you find 'everywhere in nature but also in art. Standing in front one can hear the echoes of the surrounding sounds
