Location
This photo is taken at Independence Pass, a high mountain pass in the Rockies with beautiful scenic views.Time
This would have been around noon or early afternoon.Lighting
As this was one stop on a two-day road trip, I didn't have a lot of control over the timing and lighting, but was happy with how it came out.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon PowerShot SX160 IS, no tripod and no flash.Inspiration
My husband and I were on a 2-day road trip through Arizona, Utah and Colorado, and stopped briefly atop the Rockies, at Independence Pass. It was surreal because we had just come from hot desert conditions in Arizona, and spent the night in red rock country in Arches National Park, Utah, and now suddenly we were surrounded by flowers and snow!Editing
I adjusted the curves slightly in photoshop to bring out the highlights and shadows on the image. In my camera bag
Generally my only equipment is the camera, an extra card, and 4 or 5 extra batteries. AnyFeedback
My main piece of advice is to carry a camera everywhere! Every time I don't I come across a scene which makes me regret not having one. What made this image work was getting right down at ground level and shooting through the flowers. This created an interesting foreground for the scene.
