Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Boardwalk at Granite Park in Plano. I enjoy finding cool places where I can take unique photos.

Time

I began taking pictures a couple of hours before sunset. I was fascinated by the scenery on the Boardwalk. As day turned to night that is when the magic happened. Everything lit up and took on a whole new look. This photo was taken around 8 p.m.

Lighting

My camera works exceptionally well at night. The added lighting from the water fountains and the buildings in the background helped to bring the photo to life.

Equipment

I carry my Pixel 6 Pro with me to take outdoor evening shots since it has a night vision setting. I haven't found a better way to capture the moments in the dark without it. I have been taking pictures for the past 7 months and am still learning how to use the cameras I own. I find myself improving with every shot. With practice, you begin noticing things that you would have missed in the beginning.

Inspiration

I am drawn to photos of water and tend to take a lot of pictures of water fountains. When the fountains are lit up and glowing, they take on a magical quality that I love to capture. When I started out that day, I had no expectations. I love discovering new places and things to share with others. When I first came across the Boardwalk, I was drawn to the colorful scene before me. I felt like I was on the northeast coast instead of Texas. I took so many pictures that afternoon that it was dusk before I knew it. Time flew. When I saw the fountains light up, I had to take a picture. Capturing the magical moment made my day!

Editing

The original photograph was in color and I found that by changing it to black and white, the images popped! I submitted the black and white photo to the "Monochrome Layers" contest and came in 3rd in the USA and 11th worldwide.

In my camera bag

My camera bag has become quite heavy these days. Lately, I have considered getting a bigger bag! I carry my Nikon Z-50 and three different kinds of lenses for daytime shots. I have my introduction cards that I give to people after taking their pictures or doing a review online for business establishments. The cards list myself as a Street Photographer and the sites that I am on or where I can be reached by email. I usually carry my Pixel 6-Pro in my hand and bring the bag along during my adventures. I am prepared for what the day or night brings.

Feedback

My best photos have been taken on the fly. I have become a true shutterbug with a couple of cameras always along for the ride. Be observant and creative with your photo shoots and processing. Travel to new places to find unexpected opportunities for a great shot! Take lots of pictures from different perspectives because you don't really know which is the best until you upload it onto your computer. Most of all, stay positive and always be curious!
