Camel Back Mountain is the highest peak in the Phoenix, Arizona area. The Camel Back Mountain Trail starts off with a fairly steep incline. Many people think, that because the hike is not very long from start to finish, that despite their experience with hiking that anyone can tackle this hike. That is a big misconception. If not experienced at hiking one should definitely seek out a guide. Even the most experienced hiker needs to be well prepared to take on this hike. In a little over a mile hikers gain about a 1300-foot vertical climb. That is quite the hike. To the left of the mountain is the Praying Monk.
