This was shot at home during an impromptu photo shoot in February. Photo was captured on my deck.Time
This photo was taken late evening between 5-6pm. I remember coming home from work and my daughter was surprisingly in a photographic mood. I thought, this awesome, no way I'm missing this opportunity. We started in my dinning room, the french doors that lead to the deck yield beautiful lighting. Then we moved to the deck where this photo was captured.Lighting
On my deck was full sunlight, but because it was late evening, the lighting was not as harsh. It was softer with that rustic orange hue that I love. I positioned her facing the sunlight and I moved to the right of her at a 90 degree angle, then asked her turn her head towards me at about 45 degrees, and took multiple shots from this angle.Equipment
This was shot hand held with a 5D Mark II, Canon, 70-200mm telephoto.Inspiration
The moment presented itself without any coercing. My daughter hasn't always felt confident in front of the camera. So, what I captured was her feeling the way she should feel about herself and that is is beautiful! I call these, Moments that create moments.Editing
Normally I use as little as possible. PortraitPro software was used to even out the skin tone and to slightly darken her hair.In my camera bag
My bag is always packed with a my Canon 5D Mark II, 70-200mm telephoto, 24-70mm and the trusty 50mm lens. Speedlite 430XII and Vello wireless flash transmitter/receiver.Feedback
Full sunlight is not our enemy, there are ways to soften harsh sunlight when needed. We are in the moment capturing business. Ensure your gear is ready at all times, because we can't always plan for all the moments that happen.
