Behind The Lens

Location

I am lucky enough to have this view out of my back door, just a few steps away. I am a self-taught photographer so I love practicing dark and moody photos.

Time

This is one of my personal favorites, I took this late in the evening right after a thunderstorm passed, I looked out of my back window and seen how heavy the fog was and I wanted to try and capture it perfectly. I also didn't have my tripod handy so the stability wasn't that easy because it was also cold and I was shaking.

Lighting

My goal was dark and moody, so the lighting in the evening right after the storm passed and the rain let up made the lighting natural and perfect.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon RebelT3, Canon zoom lens EF-S 18-55mm. No other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

I had been so inspired by a dark and moody challenge that I came across that I wanted to try and create my own dark and moody picture, so when I noticed the fog that day after the storm I knew it would be the perfect moment to get the shot I wanted. I love the train tracks because of the leading lines so I use the train tracks a lot for landscapes and even photoshoots.

Editing

I used lightroom tools to adjust the contrast, black point, brightness, sharpness and saturation. No filters were used.

In my camera bag

I always pack my Canon RebelT3 and I have my iPhone camera, of course, I am very simple with my equipment. I am fairly new to sharing my photos so I haven't upgraded or added any new equipment. Although, I do plan on adding a Sony alpha A7 soon.

Feedback

If you're looking to capture something like this I suggest being patient and when the perfect moment comes taking a lot of the same shot. I always snap around 3 of the same image because I always find something different in each of them that I can usually bring out and make each of them their own photo.
