Location
The photo was taken in Greece, when visiting Symi, a small island in the Dodecanese. Symi is a fantastic place for photographing - with fantastic light and so many different motives to capture.Time
This photo is taken around 5.30 in the morning. Woke up early to catch the golden hour and sunset. I was on my way to a spot I’d picked out the day before to take some shots of the sunrise with my new Nikon. I had my IPhone handy if something interesting came in my way. I came around a corner and there she was - the sailingboat in a perfect angle and with the lights reflecting in the water.Lighting
I prefer the light just before and after sunrise (or sunset) when the light is softer and smoother. I try to make use of natural light in combination with other illumination. Here I was lucky with both. There was just a little movement in the water - just enough to give life to the photo.Equipment
This was a shot with my iPhone12 Pro. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
When I saw the motive it was like a painting - perfect light, a feeling of calm and harmony and yet alive. The photo came out the way I aimed for - like a painting.Editing
In this case I made a few small alterations - increased the clarity (because I cropped the photo a little) and put a bit more contrast and shadows to the picture. Didn’t have to alter the colour at all, it came out very natural. In my camera bag
I have just started photographing with my Nikon D3500 and two objectives, 18-55 and 70-300. No filters except UV. Have no tripod yet. Sometimes I bring my GoPro Hero9. My iPhone (right now a 12 Pro) is always in my hand or pocket.Feedback
Taking shots of sunrise: Make preparations in advance - find a spot and the angle you want for the picture, prepare the camerasettings and tripod if you want to focus on a particular motive. Skip the tripod if you want to be more creative and use different angles and move from one spot to another. Try to get the composition right from start. Keep your eyes open for spontanious shots and have your camera easily accessable or be prepared with the iPhone in your hand or pocket.
