Location
This was taken at Venice Rookery in Venice Florida.Time
I believe it was mid morning as this is when the sun is on the Rookery.Lighting
Lighting is everything....Early morning or later in the afternoon. It is less harsh those times of day. In this image lighting was great as it was on the bird. Focusing on the bird sorta darkened the area around the bird which in turn really makes the bird pop.Equipment
When I go to the Rookery I have my tripod with by nest (similar to a Gimbal), My 200-500mm lens with a 2x's teleconverter and this puts me right in the Rookery and the nesting birds. I also have a chair that I have in the car at all times.Inspiration
What inspired me to get this shot and many like this is their breeding plumage feathers. This Great Egret spreads out the feathers in hope of getting a mate. You won't see this behavior when it is not breeding season. In Florida the Rookery is most active during December into maybe early spring.Editing
I don't think the image needed any post processing. If I honestly remember, I took this a few years ago..In my camera bag
I used to only take what I thought I might use....I would find out later I wouldn't have something I needed or could of used...SO now I have everything I can think in my camera bag. My Nikon Z6 camera , 28-300mm lens , 50mm macro lens, remote. flash, reflectors, batteries. extra cards, bottle of water for my little bottle of water to mist flowers, small tripod. 2x's teleconverter. I think that covers it.Feedback
I would say one would have to have knowledge of the birds in their area, know the breeding season, if possible know where birds might have their nest. I don't know what others states or countries have like I have the Rookery. Over the winter season in Florida alot of birds migrate to warmer weather so There is alot of places for me to find alot of birds.
