Behind The Lens

Location

This Photo was taken at the annual Parkes New South Wales Australia Elvis Festival Gospel Service.

Time

The mercury for January 2019 had already soared past 30 degrees when the Elvis Gospel Service started, but it did not deter hundreds of fans from attending. The hugely-popular service that is held every year during the Parkes Elvis Festival and this year performers came from across Australia to attend. Gospel singer Francine Bell was among the performers and she received a welcome cheer from the crowds. Francine Bell opens her heart to give the full power of African-American Gospel, Variety, and Jazz music. She takes you on a musical excursion from the streets of her native New York through to the cabarets of Europe. There is an unmistakable and compelling quality to her performance. Hearing the this angelic voice made me stop in my tracks and point my camera in it's direction.

Lighting

As the day was well under way, natural lighting was the best and most useful to use. Position is everything so a quick scout of angles and where the exposure would be the most natural allowing for minimal post edtiting.

Equipment

Camera My run and gun Nikon P1000 Settings Aperture 50/10? ISO 100? Shutter 10/4000? Focal Length 1260/10?

Inspiration

My inspiration is the same as most photographers. I never travel without a camera, as I believe life requires capturing for generations to look back on. While I snap a lot of random stills. My day job as a freelance news camera operator and photographer takes me to some seriously amazing locations and introduces me to some very interesting individuals. These people, locations and the places in between are inspiration enough for any photographer new or old.

Editing

As the stage area was a little bland with it's black backdrop, I felt a touch up with a vignettes was required to focus on the subject I wanted others to see. Post edit both a Solar Corona and Solar Corridor were added. Simple I believe is the best way to showcase and not over do an edit.

In my camera bag

I dont have a bag lol. I have a boot full of gear, from tripods to lighting, camera's include Nikon's, Canon and Sony. Of course like most I have various lenses to ensure the scene is maximised with the right glass for the right camera. My favorite in my boot of goodies is my Nikon D500 with 70-300 lens, followed closely by my Parrot ANAFI UAV (Drone). Any excuse to get into the air for that extra prospective.

Feedback

Best advice I can pass on is 1/. NEVER RUSH your shot. 2/. Look for the best light with the right angle 3/. Do NOT be afraid to speak with the talent and get the best shot that compliments them and your work as one. 4/. As an older photographer than me once said, there is never a bad time to snap a shot, so use your heart and your emotions to tell a story others can enjoy with you.
