Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken on a nature trail outside of Eureka, California. I was walking alone and happened upon several of these vultures perched on a dead tree. I caught this bird as it flew from one tree to another.Time
This was taken in the mid morning.Lighting
The day was overcast and just slightly misty. The conditions seemed perfect for a shot of a rather ominous-looking creature.Equipment
I shot this with a Canon EOS Rebel T6i, using a EF75-300 mm lens. This was a handheld shot.Inspiration
This was simply serendipitous. These birds mesmerized me as soon as I spotted them, and I had to capture one of them.Editing
I sharpened just slightly and dehazed a bit. I also upped the contrast just a tad.In my camera bag
It depends on what I plan to be shooting, but I typically carry a portable tripod, a variety of lenses, 3 neutral density filters, and 2-3 SDHC cards.Feedback
Just be sure to have your camera and a good zoom lens with you when you hike or stroll through nature settings. You never know what you'll stumble across. You also need to be patient to get the most interesting angles and motions. I took dozens of shots of this bird as it flew around in order to get the optimal shot.
