The photo was taken in Bilbao - showing the famous Guggenheim Museum inaugurated in 1997 and designed by the famous Frank Gehry.Time
I did a short trip to Bilbao in April and as expected the weather on Spain's northern coast is unpredictable. We had not much luck with great light and it was pouring rain all day. What shall we do - we can't change conditions so we put on our raingear and walked through the city and then spent some hours on the riverwalk opposite the museum. The picture was taken around 4pm - while we had some minutes without rain.Lighting
Lighting was not amazing - so i decided to convert the picture into b/w to emphasize the drama in the sky - what corresponds well with the amazing silver coating of the buildiing.Equipment
I used my Olympus OM-D E-M1 and my Olympus 7-14mm lens on a Cullman tripod.Inspiration
A friend of mine visited Bilbao a couple of years ago and highly recommended to go there. After some research I made my decision to enjoy some nice food and explore Bilbao and the coast of northern Spain. I saw a lot of fantastic pics of the museum and i knew that I need one as well. One of these "need to have" shots visualized a beautiful sunrise with purple skies - but in the end it was a gray cloudy day but eventhough I made my capture and came back home happy.Editing
I shot 3 frames in portrait mode at 20secs and combined it to a pano in Lightroom. Converted into B/W and adjusted exposure and highlights and finally some dodge and burn in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I am travelling light sold all my Nikon Gear years ago and now beside my Olympus OM-D E-M1 i have my Olympus 7-14mm Pro and 12-40mm Pro Lenses with me. Using Nisi ND Filters, 10 stop and 4 stop plus a Polarizer if necessary.Feedback
I guess the building itself is just a great piece of art. It won't be hard to capture a picture like this just go out and play. On that trip to Bilbao I had so many situations I would rather stayed in my hotelroom than going out shooting. It was cold and wet. But as always this are the moments you need to push yourself out of the comfortzone. You will be rewarded with some great pictures.
