Behind The Lens

Location

A rented loft apartment, turned studio for the day!

Time

We used the large open windows for natural light. It was mid-day to have the sun coming through the windows nicely. Studio lighting was available but I love the feel of natural light every time over set lights.

Lighting

All natural. All open window. It was snowing that day and overcast which gave the perfect natural soft box lighting to the images.

Equipment

Nikon D750. My trusty 18-55mm lens (its a cropped lens but I still love it)

Inspiration

We were going for a slightly melancholy feel. With the overcast lighting and edit, we achieved that.

Editing

I used lightroom for my base edit for styling. Then into Photoshop to retouch the client and scene.

In my camera bag

I'm packed for whatever shot or situation comes up. If you don't have the goods, you can't make things happen when they need to. Extra batteries. Flash. Lens variations from primes to wide to zoom. Cleaning clothes.

Feedback

Work with the lighting available. Experiment with angles. There's guidelines to angles and lines captured on the subject but every body is built different. Find which angles work the best! And be different. Find your own style and make that style emote what you're trying to get across to the viewer.
