These air-raid tunnels could provide refuge to more than 1800 terrified people during the Blitz of World War 2. The tunnels were partitioned off into eight different sections otherwise a bomb blast in one could have wiped out everybody in the whole of the tunnels.

When the 'all clear' was given, people would have left their place of safety not knowing if they would be delighted to see their homes and businesses intact, or despaired to find that all that was left was a pile of rubble.

The green light is produced by sunlight passing through leaves of trees just outside the windows.
