I got up close at the start of the Rolex Fastnet Yacht Race 2011, in a high-speed RIB flying at about 25 knots, to capture the action with my first ever Canon DSLR! Conditions were very lively! Half-standing, knees taking the strain to keep the shots steady and watching for the next big wave, I used a high shutter speed and manual focus throughout. That day was a total BLAST!!
The biennial Rolex Fastnet Race is considered one of the world’s classic ocean races, the 608-mile course a test for skippers and crews with its tricky tidal currents and changeable weather conditions. The race is organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club, with the Royal Yacht Squadron and the Royal Western Yacht Club, Plymouth.
