Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during a humanitarian aid trip to mwanza Tanzania.

Time

Due to the nature of our trip I was unable to do much shooting other than in mid day. Not the most ideal circumstances, but the harsh lighting does lend itself to the stark survivalistic nature of the Serengeti.

Lighting

I was forced to choose between the epic sky and the detail of the cheetah. A terrible decision, but again, with correct composition, the faded sky adds to the shot.

Equipment

This shot was inspired by the worst experience of my photography life. Arriving on the Serengeti and realizing that my extra battery and charger was on my kitchen counter on the other side of the world. Each and every shot I took was composed and focused without turning the camera on, then briefly allowing myself to take the shot and turning it off without checking any photo.

Inspiration

The harsh terrain and bleak survivalist is embodies in this beautiful animal.

Editing

I boasted the contrast and some vibrancy. Otherwise it is quite original.

In my camera bag

I typically carry my canon 6D with a few L-series lenses, (15-70) (70-200) And an optional tripod for any night of time lapse photography.
