This is gorgeous! I love this spot. May I ask how you go about editing your photos? And, do you shoot RAW?

Oh my, I just happened to find your comment right now. Sorry, but to answer your question, I do shoot in RAW, and I have a lot of experience with Photoshop, and I do use some plugins, such as Topaz.

Behind The Lens

Location

I had the pleasure of photographing Moraine Lake, one of the most iconic scenes in the Canadian Rockies.

Time

I got up early to photograph this supreme site on September 22, 2015. I remember walking up the stone staircase and peering over the ridge to see the most magnificent sight in my life. I felt like I just stepped into a postcard, I couldn't believe it was real. The light was still a little dim so I waited until the sunlight illuminated the peaks at 9:14am.

Lighting

I waited until the sunlight illuminated the peaks so that they would be more clearly reflected in the water.

Equipment

I used a Canon 70D with a Tamron 16-300 zoom lens. It was set at 16mm, handheld, 1/200sec, f/9.

Inspiration

I had always wanted to visit the Canadian Rockies and in 2015 I finally got my chance. My husband and I took three weeks off and drove from Northern Illinois. We mainly explored places around Banff and Jasper. I also loved Emerald Lake in BC. I loved every minute of being there and never wanted to leave. It is pretty difficult not to get great photos in a place with such beauty everywhere you look. I hope to return sometime in the not too distant future.

Editing

I did my normal editing process but because it was handheld and my ISO was set higher than I would have liked, I used a 3rd party plugin to soften the slight noise in the photo.

In my camera bag

I always bring two camera bodies with me when I travel, a Canon 6D and a Canon 70D. I love the versatility of the Tamron 16-300 for landscapes, but I also enjoy capturing macro shots with the 6D paired with a Canon 100mm macro lens. Because it was a frosty morning on the day I took this photo, I was also getting some nice macro shots of the frosty foliage. When needed, I use an Oben aluminum tripod.

Feedback

I traveled to the Canadian Rockies at the very end of their season. I have been told that sometimes roads can be closed because of snow at that time of year, (late September, early October). But we lucked out and did not have any issues. It was a good time to capture the color of the late autumn foliage, which makes a beautiful backdrop against the majestic mountains.
