I love to shoot flowers, especially ones that are unique, or before or after full bloom. I feel the black background accentuates the flower in a very dramatic way.Editing
I simply converted it to black+white and did some minor adjustments.In my camera bag
I recently bought a Lensbaby for shooting botanicals. I have a 100mm Macro lens. I also have a Canon 6D. I made a black card to use behind a single flower head. I often bring both cameras when I shoot. I use the Tamron 16-300 zoom on the 70D because I love the range it gives me. I love the clarity I get from my 100mm macro with the "L" glass. I also have various lens filters in my bag.Feedback
There is really no secret, practice makes perfect. I shoot in any kind of weather, day or night. I have a membership with the American Horticulture Society, so I visit many gardens all during the year. I look for flowers and plants that are unique in some way. I make adjustments in post processing to bring out the most detail. I have a strong background in art, which has helped me a great deal in developing my eye for photography. I continuously hone my skills with practice and education. By becoming very observant, you can always find something interesting to photograph.
