Behind The Lens

Location

South Main Street, Shawano, Wiscconsin

Time

Afternoon, I think. that's when I'm usually on and about.

Lighting

Nope. Just the sun.

Equipment

Nikon D60 with a Sigma 28-70 aspherical lens.

Inspiration

I knew Twig's Beverages had just purchased the building and planned to renovate it. I wanted to record the old weathered condition it had developed during the decades of relative disuse before they fixed it up.

Editing

This is a three-frame panorama stitched in Hugin. I played around with the color balance, pushing the shadows red and the highlights blue before dumping the color data.

In my camera bag

I carry a Nikon D60 as my primary camera. It usually has either a 28-70mm Sigma or a Nikkor 70-210mm (I used to use a Quaternary until the focus ring jammed) on it. Sometimes I'll add a Vivtar 2x teleconverter or an Elicar 90mm macro. I often carry a Fujifilm Finepix Z70 for "taking notes"

Feedback

Don't go crazy trying to fit everything in one frame when the subject will remain completely the same for minutes/hours. Panoramic stitching software isn't that hard to use, especially on scenes like this where there's a lot of stitch points for it to work with.
