Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on location in a natural country setting. The location was in a rural stream. I waded the stream to achieve the natural beauty of both the scenery and beautiful young lady. I am pretty much a self taught photographer, with the exception of a few courses from a community college.

Time

This is my favorite photo from a senior photo session. It was taken in late afternoon during the summer. No tripod was used during the shoot.

Lighting

Natural light was used in this setting. Late afternoon works best for natural light. Preferably the golden hour.

Equipment

Equipment used was a Nikon D3200 camera. 18-55mm lens. f/11. ISO 800. Exposure 10/600 No tripod. No flash.

Inspiration

I have taken many photo sessions in this country setting. I love the ambiance this stream produces. Especially when teens want a different atmosphere or environment. When I saw the outfit the teen chose for her session, I immediately took her to this stream. Most may think of country clothing, but I wanted to do something different.

Editing

Very little post-processing was done. Nothing out of the norm. Slightly sharpened the colors. Softened the subject's skin and that's about it.

In my camera bag

The equipment I take in my camera backpack bag is Nikon D3200 camera, 18-55mm lens, 55-200 lens, 55-300 lens, hood, white balance cards, micro lens, filters, several SD cards, cleaning kit, and tripod.

Feedback

My advice to others would be find a country stream that has many different characters such as fallen logs, water falls, rocks, etc. Again, golden hours work best. Scout out the settings before the shoots to check the different lighting during the day that will work best for you. Don't be afraid to wade the stream and wear comfortable clothing. When taking pics try many different angles. Sit or lie in the water to achieve your favorite shot.
