Great shot, I love it!

Behind The Lens

Location

The Eiffel Tower is so iconic and a must see at all times of day.

Time

This was my first visit and I'd heard about the light show that starts at 8pm each day so my bride and I showed up at around 6:30pm and staked out our spot on the great lawn.

Lighting

As the sun set this beautiful blue emerged, then at 8pm the strobes lit up and the tower came to life.

Equipment

I used a Sony a7rii camera on a tripod with the camera settings at: 1/8 sec; f4.0; ISO800; 24-70mm F4 ZA OSS lens

Inspiration

I wanted an Eiffel Tower shot that caught the massive size of the structure and the beauty and sparkle at the same time. I love the crowd at the bottom of the shot that helps give a sense of the size. And when the lights went off the energy of the crowd just exploded. Like a firework display without the fireworks. A wonderful evening!

Editing

Yes I balanced the shot and brought out the shadows at the bottom, which revealed the people. RAW is magical!

In my camera bag

I had just purchased the Sony a7rii camera when we went to Europe and didn't have the lenses I have now which is unfortunate. I'm never without my 55mm F1.8 Ziess which is so clean and sharp and I'm equally impressed with the optics in the 16-35mm F4.0 Ziess. I also purchased the Sony 70-200mm F4 G lenses when it first came out but wish I'd waited until the new Sony 70-200mm F2.8 G had come out.

Feedback

My advice to others is to make sure you've done some logistical planning, giving yourself enough time to get the shot you're looking for. Of course patience is a key and finally take a gazillion snaps until you get just the right one, lol......
