Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was was taken at my home roof. Luckily the butterfly had just came out of cocoon and sitting on the potted plant leaf, waiting to be dried out.

Time

It was taken early in the morning (between 7 and 7:30 am )

Lighting

Yes, I find diffused reflected light worked well on this image. The photo was taken in summer and the sun was out, there was plenty of light reflecting from the whitewashed walls around the roof.

Equipment

No equipment other than my nikon d3100 and kit lens (18-55mm), was used.

Inspiration

I always get inspired by nature and nature photos. My inspiration was this beautiful butterfly sitting on the leaf.

Editing

Yes, I found the background was a bit dull and was not going well with butterfly, so I adjusted contrast, brightness and using brush created sunspots in the background.

In my camera bag

I have nikon d3100 and finepix cameras, tripod and a polarizer filter in my bag.

Feedback

Insects are most difficult to capture as they move around non stop, except, that you get lucky sometimes like me. So, knowing about a particular insect in advance to when it is least active will be helpful!! Brightly lit situation is well suited for butterfly photos. Shoot several photos from different angles and with different focal lengths. :))
