This is a picture of a Frisco Caboose in the Finley River Park in Ozark, MO. I took the picture, then wondered what it would be like for the caboose to reminisce about "the good old days", when it was part of a train. I used the GIMP to add effects to an underlying image, then merged the two together.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo of a caboose at the entrance of Finley River Park in Ozark, MO USA. It, along with the little water wheel house, are situated to the right of the South entrance of the park.

Time

I took this picture in mid-afternoon on a warm August day. It was overcast, which added a slight shadowy effect to the picture.

Lighting

The day was mostly overcast, which added a soft shadowy effect to the scene.

Equipment

I used my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone, hand-held, with no flash.

Inspiration

I was inspired to take this photo because I have always had an affection for trains. When I was 6 years old, we lived about 200 yards from a line of tracks, and occasionally there would be locomotives going through. I could hear the "clickity-clack" of the wheels crossing the seams where the rails butted together.

Editing

I used The GIMP photo program to overlay the image of the caboose on an image of a full train as a backdrop. I then used the elsamuko lomo script, limited by an oval selection of the area surrounding the caboose, to generate a "dream" effect.

In my camera bag

I always have my cell phone with me to be able to capture pictures on the fly. When I do a planned photoshoot, I pack up my Canon A1000 camera and tripod to take with me.

Feedback

When something triggers a nostalgic memory, take a picture. Then use your nostalgic memories in offbeat, unique ways to create your memory.
