Location
This shot was taken at Highlands Hammock State Park. It is located just outside of Sebring, Florida.Time
When I go to the park I get there at 8AM when it open and normally spend 4 to 5 hours wandering the different trails. This particular shot was taken about 10:30 in the morning.Lighting
The area the shot was taken was shaded by tree limbs but I had enough light to get the shot with the details.Equipment
I shoot with a Nikon D-90 with a Nikkor 18 to 300 zoom lens.Inspiration
This shot literally fell into place, I was moving between trails and found this young owl on the side of the road. It had fallen out of the nest and to keep it from getting run over, I sat beside it in the road. Park personnel were called to rescue the little owl and while they were waiting I managed to get several shots from about 3 feet. This is one of the once in a lifetime things that happen and is something I love sharing.Editing
The only post processing I really do is for color to make sure it is what I saw.In my camera bag
I normally carry the D-90 with the 18 to 300 zoom as most of my shots are hand held. In the bag I carry a 55 - 200 Nikkor zoom lens, a set of extension tubes, spare batteries and my flash unit.Feedback
This is hard to answer because you are dealing with animals. From my perspective, I know the place I am shooting and have watched the changes during the year. With nature it changes every hour and every day, so just look around and you will find some amazing things. Also try different times of the day, the light changes how thing look. But the biggest thing is have fun with photography, you never know what you will find to shoot.
