Location
I took this image in the SouthBound Gym, South of Adelaide, South Australia.Time
It was around 11:00amLighting
I was using two light boxes as I don't like using a flash when I shoot these models. There was a large roller door to the my left so I opened the roller door up to get a boost of light on her side.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D with a Sigma Art 24-105 lens Hand held with no flash. I was using light boxes to give me the desired look I was after.Inspiration
I was shooting this image as part of a 12 Girl Calendar shoot I was doing for Panatta gym equipment in Italy that gets distributed world wide. I shot the calendar for 3 years.Editing
Yes I always sharpen or soften my images in photoshop for the calendar, plus putting a vignette softly around the image to draw your eyes into the photo. In my camera bag
I always carry a Canon 7D plus my Canon 600D in a Canon camera back pack. I also have two remote flash units, my Sigma Art 24-105 lens, Canon 50mm lens also a Canon 17-85 lens. I have a camera body straps to take the wait of the camera as I can shoot for up to 3 hours straight and it saves your arms from getting sore. I also carry my flash pop open soft boxes for my flashes with two extra flash stands. Also my camera Tripod which is heavy duty.Feedback
I find when working with sports models it's all about making a connection with them and getting them to relax. If you can't get them to give you the look you're after it doesn't matter how good your photography is. Lighting is the whole key making the image work, I find Flash photography for the look I was after was just to harsh plus I need there bodies to stand out & I find flash can wipe out some of the shadows which show how cut up their bodies are. I try to get an image of power but making shore I show how beautiful the model is at the same time. These are bikini models not full body builders so I try to make sure I show the softer side of them.
