This image is the image that sparked my obsession with photographing food! It was captured midday inside.Lighting
The idea was to replicate natural window light without an actual window. I used a continuous light soft box camera right and a white board to bounce just a kiss of light into the shadows camera left to achieve the effect I was going for.Equipment
This was taken with my very first DSLR, a Nikon D3200 with a 40mm macro lens. I used a Manfroto tripod. I used a continuous light soft box and white board for bounce. No other equipment was used.Inspiration

These days my bag has changed quite a bit from when this was taken. I now carry a Nikon D750 and D500 as well as a variety of lenses. I usually always have my trusty 24-120, a 50mm, 40mm macro, 105mm macro and my 70-200mm 2.8. I carry a Manfroto tripod as well as a Goriilapod. I also like to have a couple of small (8.5x11) white cards for bounce.Feedback
In my experience when you are dealing with food, like many things preparation is key. Take your time when setting the scene. Use "stand ins" while framing the shot and when you have it framed the way you think you want it then put your food in. Pay attention to detail. Styling is just as significant as any other component when it comes to creating a beautiful food shot. I personally prefer using natural light when shooting food it seems to make it look more appetizing. I try to set up near a window and use available light with bounce cards whenever possible. However, as in this photo sometimes it is necessary to recreate that window light using a soft box. Finally, pack your patience because like many things it takes time to get that shot out of your head and on paper like you envision it.
