Location
At home, in a portable soft light box, on top of my bar in the basement!Time
In the evening.Lighting
Lighting was very simple. There were some over halogen lights, from the bar. On each side of the light box, I had a small halogen spot light pointing at the sides. The light box is made of a translucent material which allows, nice shadow-less lighting.Equipment
Camera is a Canon T3, on a basic tripod. I also was using a screw on macro lens/filter with a +4 power.Inspiration
I was trying to find some everyday, ordinary things around the house to create some interesting macro shots. A pencil sharpener full of shavings happen to be sitting right there, so I gave it a shot.Editing
No special post process other than cropping a bit, and adjusting some basic settings, such as levels and contrast. In my camera bag
My bag is very simple, my camera, two kit lenses (18mm-55mm standard and 70mm-300mm zoom) as well as a 50mm prime. I also have various extension tubes and screw on lens filters for macro use (+1, +2, & +4).Feedback
Experiment, and practice. Learn to look at things differently. Macro is great for showing a completely different view of an ordinary object. You can do it with anything, but texture and shape makes a big difference. Take a lot of shots. You might take a few shots and not be happy and stop, but you need to keep going, trying new angles, etc. You might take hundreds of images and only get one good one, but that's ok.
