Where did it all go wrong? He wonders how those hairless primates turned out like they have. Excellent lighting and detail. I celebrate open spaces with off-center subjects. This is good stuff.

Behind The Lens

Location

We took a day trip to Twycross Zoo as a rule you don't usually visit Zoos, we mainly visit wildlife parks where the animals have a lot more space to move around The title, where did it all go wrong! is quite appropriate for this image

Time

I think it was around 14:00 in the afternoon, the monkey enclosure was almost completely surrounded by glass part from the back wall This was shot though the glass using a lens hood pushed right up to the glass

Lighting

The monkey enclosure was outside, the sun was quite high over my left shoulder which was more luck than judgment, talk about being under the spotlight I think the monkey was soaking up the sun, this was good for me too, I was soaking up the light It was perfect

Equipment

This was captured using my old Olympus E-510 with the 70-300 lens Hand held pushed tight against the glass in natural sunlight 1/80 sec ISO 400 f/5.2 at 226mm

Inspiration

Simply watching this monkey just sitting there with that expression on its face said it all for me Hence the title, where did it all go wrong! Does this image pull on the heart strings, hell yes but that's not the reason for taking the shot, it was all about the expression

Editing

Yes the processing was done in Photoshop CS5 To start with I wanted to loss the zoo environment and give it a totally black background for two reasons, the first reason was to keep the viewer fixed on the monkey with its facial expression The second reason was, where did it all go wrong, what is it about, what happened, now the viewer can decide the story
