Behind The Lens

Location

Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County.

Time

8pm

Lighting

The "Golden Hour" can be intense some evenings, the secret is to have patience and let the natural light speak.

Equipment

Canon t31, Zeiss 50mm.

Inspiration

The awesome sight of the clouds over the mountains made my jaw drop. I knew they were slow moving so I waited for the sun (behind me) to start its merry dance with the light.

Editing

I had to pull out the shadows from the lower 3rd of the frame, then a little tweak on the contrast and vibrance. I tend not to over work an image, if I can. I aim for as precise as possible in the camera with manual settings.

In my camera bag

Canon t31, Yashica 28mm, Zeiss 50mm, Zeiss 85mm, Zeiss 135mm. Extra batteries, memory cards.

Feedback

Always be aware of your surroundings, especially when you see the same thing day in day out, suddenly something happens to make something mundane spectacular. Not that the view from my house is mundane, but without the clouds it can be boring.
